Abstract:
Provided is a wheel bearing device that achieves a reduction in weight and cost without a reduction in strength/rigidity of an outer member. The wheel bearing device has a vehicle body mounting flange 5b with multiple screw holes 13 into which fastening bolts are to be screwed. In the wheel bearing device, the vehicle body mounting flange 5b is constituted by multiple lug parts 10 that are discontinuously formed in the circumferential direction of the outer peripheral surface of an outer member 5 and radially protrude outward; a tapered outer peripheral surface 11 is formed such that the diameter gradually decreases towards the outer side across the lug parts 10; a cylindrical fitting surface 12, which is to be fitted into a knuckle, and protruding strips 16, which radially protrude outward beyond the fitting surface 12 and are each disposed between the lug parts 10, are formed on the inner side by means of forging such that the protruding strips 16 and the outer peripheral surfaces of the lug parts 10 are smoothly connected with each other; and ribs 15 are formed on the inner side of the outer peripheral surfaces of the lug parts 10 by means of forging.
