Description:
Wheel with safety support for tubeless tires

Technical field The present invention relates to wheel with safety support for tubeless tires especially for road transportation means, comprising a rim provided with a bead seat wherein a tire is seated, whereas there is a safety support encircling the rim placed in the internal cavity of the tire.

Background art Concerning regular tires and rims used at present, sudden loss of air pressure leads to distortion of bead seat, destruction of tire and distracts driving direction.

Transportation mean becomes highly unstable and hardly controllable under run-flat conditions. In extreme cases this may end in accidents and cause damages and casualties.

Basically, such support and safety systems take at present various directions.

One is reinforcing side walls of a tire, thus loosing driving comfort, but regular rim and bead seat shape is used. Other employs regular rim and tire where, in cross section wavy annular shape made of steel is mounted on the rim. The shape has rubberized beads pushing towards the tire beads and two waves of the shape support under run-flat conditions inner side of the tread strip thus allowing safely stop the vehicle. Another system comprises cylindrical annular body, which between the specially designed rim and tire provides a support allowing drive a vehicle under run-flat conditions at low speed. The rim and both parts of the tire are of special type. Latter two solutions require specially designed equipment for assembling and disassembling the systems. This is then reflected in high prices of such wheels.

It is also known the solution described in SK utility design No. 3222, in which the rim is tightly encircled by annular body comprising two fixedly attached parts, the carrying part seated in the circumferential recess of the rim and supporting part protruding into the internal cavity of the tire.

Drawback of this solution resides in that, though tread strip is supported the tire beads remain unsecured against the bead seat resulting in undesired slippage of the tire.

Dsclosure invention Mentioned drawbacks substantially overcome wheel with safety support for tubeless tires, especially for road transportation means, comprising a rim provided with a bead seat wherein a tire is seated, whereas there is a safety support according to present invention encircling the rim placed in the internal cavity of the tire. The safety support comprises mirrored pair of shaped rings made of elastic material. Ring beads fit in central circumferential recess of the rim. Body of the rings is inverted V-shaped and outer arms of these shapes direct to the bead seat and bead of the tire.

Favorable is, when distance of the outer arms is smaller than width of a region on the rim determined by beads of the tire.

Favorable also is that the mirrored pair of shaped rings is made of rubber.

Considered favorable as well, is that the mirrored pair of shaped rings is made of plastics.

Further favorable also is that the mirrored pair of shaped rings is reinforced with steel and/or fabric and/or rubber crumb.

Wheel with safety support allows safer way to stop vehicle after failure of tire, since tread strip is in contact with cap of the mirrored pair of shaped rings, so supported and thus preventing serious damage of rim vs. tire. Transportation mean is thus able to run until safe place to stop is found, or may reach e. g. far located garage, however several stops are required then. Arrangement of the mirrored pair of shaped rings secures the position of beads against respective bead seats in run-flat conditions. This system also avoids dangerous accidents when tire fails at higher speed as of trailers.

Shaped rings are shaped so as to allow using them with regular rim and also their assembly with the rim using standard equipment found in a vast number of garages. The rings under normal conditions do not touch the tire and their center position is locked by the presence of recess on the rim. Elastic body of shaped rings allows to restore their original shape when being deformed, therefore they still may be used after the tire is repaired. When repairing the tire the rings thus remain on the rim or they are re- mounted before the tire.

Brief description of drawings The invention is further described in drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows half- section of a wheel with tubeless tire having mirrored pair of shaped rings mounted on a wheel rim under normal conditions and Fig. 2 shows the same wheel in run-flat conditions.

Best mode for carrying out the invention Wheel with safety support, especially for road transportation means, comprising a rim 2 provided with a bead seat 3 wherein a tire 1 is mounted. There is a safety support 9 mounted on the rim 2 in the internal cavity of the tire 1. Safety support 9 comprises mirrored pair of shaped rings 5 made of elastic material which beads fit in central circumferential recess 4 of the rim 2 and which body is inverted V-shaped and outer arms 7 of these shapes direct to the bead seat 3 and bead of the tire 1. Distance of the outer arms 7 is smaller than width of a region on the rim 2 determined by beads of the tire 1, to allow the outer arms 7 to reach the bead seat 3 when deformed by radial force.

When tire pressure falls below the safe level, the load is transmitted from the surface of tread strip through its body to the cap of shaped rings which, being compresed, partially enlarge the distance between the outer arms 7 thus securing bead of the tire 1 against the bead seat 3. Deformation induced by radial force compressing the rings 5 will push their outer arms 7 down and outwards causing the arms 7 reach the rim 2 and bead of the tire 1. Assembling and disassembling is carried out in usual manner. The tire is mounted on the rim 2 having one bead free. Mirrored pair of shaped rings 5 is placed inside the tire and using regular equipment they are, rotating the rim 2, seated in the recess 4. Their position against the recess 4 is then checked and as well of the inflating valve, and subsequently the bead remaining free is mounted.

Beads of the shaped rings 5 are designed so as to fit the diameter and width of particular recess 4 of the rim 2 and to prevent the ring 5 caps contact the tire under normal inflated conditions or slight pressure decrease.

Shape and surface and rigidity as well of separate parts depend on the purpose the wheel is used for.

The invention is not restricted to said embodiment, but other modifications of basic shape of ring pair according to wheel type are possible still being within the scope of present invention and not distracting its idea.

Industrial applicability Wheel with safety support for tubeless tires according to present invention currently finds its wide exploitation with road transportation means mainly with automobile-trailer arrangement, but not restricted to this, it may be used in agricultural vehicles, or military vehicles, above all anywhere the tire failures are frequent.
