Abstract:
Disclosed is a zinc-air secondary battery which is provided with: an air electrode which serves as a positive electrode; a negative electrode which contains zinc, a zinc alloy and/or a zinc compound; an aqueous electrolyte solution into which the negative electrode is immersed; a container which has an opening and contains the negative electrode and the electrolyte solution; and a separator which closes the opening in such a manner that the separator is able to be in contact with the electrolyte solution, thereby forming a sealed space together with the container, and which accordingly separates the air electrode and the electrolyte solution from each other in a hydroxide ion conductive manner, while having hydroxide ion conductivity but not having water permeability nor air permeability. This battery has a volumetric extra space that allows increase/decrease of the water content in the sealed space, said increase/decrease of the water content accompanying a negative electrode reaction during charging and discharging. The present invention is able to provide a highly reliable zinc-air secondary battery which uses a separator that has hydroxide ion conductivity but does not have water permeability nor air permeability.
