Abstract:

'beta'-anilinoethanethiol compounds of general formula (1) (wherein R is hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; R1 is optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted aryl); a process for the preparation of 'beta'-anilinoethanethiol compounds of general formula (1) which comprises reacting a 4-aminobenzoic acid compound with an ethyl bromide compound in the presence of a base to form a 'beta'-anilinoethyl bromide compound, deblocking this bromide compound, and reacting the resulting deblocked compound with an alkali metal p-toluenethio-phosphonate in the presence of an organic solvent; and a process for preparing 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzothiazine compounds of general formula (7) (wherein R is as defined above) by heating a 'beta'-anilinoethanethiol compound of general formula (1).
