Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] To provide a medicinal composition for treating JC virus infection such as progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) by inhibiting the expression of VP-1 and inhibiting the proliferation of JC virus, a polynucleotide therefor and utilization of the same. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] It is intended to provide a medicinal composition for treating JC virus-infected cells by the RNAi method with the use of a short interfering RNA (siRNA) to a gene encoding VP-1 of JC virus and a polynucleotide which is the active ingredient therefor. Namely, a medicinal composition for treating JC virus infection comprising a short interfering RNA (siRNA) to a gene encoding VP-1 of JC virus or a gene capable of forming this siRNA and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; a polynucleotide therefor; and utilization for producing the same.
