PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that can produce the coke with high strength at a relatively low cost.SOLUTION: The method for producing the coke according to the present invention comprises the steps of mixing coal and a caking material, and dry-distilling the mixture. The caking material is ashless coal obtained from sub-bituminous coal or heavy ashless coal obtained from brown coal, and the step of dry-distilling has a heating rate of 1°C/min or less in a softening and melting temperature region of the caking material. The step of dry-distilling preferably has the heating rate higher than the heating rate in the softening and melting temperature range of the caking material in a low temperature region having a temperature lower than the temperature of the softening and melting temperature region of the caking material or in a high temperature region having a temperature higher than the temperature of the softening and melting temperature region of the caking material. The step of dry-distilling preferably has a heating rate of 1°C/min or less in the softening and melting temperature region of the coal. The coal is preferably the sub-bituminous coal or the brown coal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
