To provide toner consumption calculation unit and method for calculating a toner consumption highly precisely, and to provide an image forming apparatus.
Upon the input of image data to the image processing part 121 of a main controller, an exposure signal (a) is constituted and inputted to a counter 120, which is indicated in the illustration. The counter 120 counts pixels for each color and each page and transmits (d) each count value to a CPU 101, which is indicated. The CPU 101 of the engine controller 10 reads the initial value and coefficient of an amount of toner for each color, which is indicated by (b), and then calculates toner consumption. A memory 107 stores the offset value of toner consumption as of a solid patch. The main controller stores toner consumption of a gradation patch as an offset value. The offset value is added to the toner consumption obtained by the calculation.
