To provide an image processor, a microcomputer, electronic equipment and an image reduction method for reducing an image of arbitrary size not limited to a size divisible by a value by which the size is reduced (reciprocal of reduction rate) without any trouble.
The image processor includes an image data reducing circuit which performs thinning-out reduction processing, the image data reducing circuit being characterized in: dividing successively inputted image data into image data groups set by longitudinal or lateral lines according to the reduction rate; detecting image data corresponding to representative pixels previously set for each image data group; deciding that the detected image data are effective; deciding whether there exist image data corresponding to a representative pixel in a fraction group when the fraction is generated by the division; extracting, when the image data are existent, the image data corresponding to the representative pixel as the representative data of the fraction group or, when not, extracting the final image data of the line as the representative data of the fraction group; and outputting the extracted representative data as image data having been reduced.
