This adsorbent condition determining device is provided with an upstream and a downstream temperature sensors 22A and 22B for detecting the temperature of the exhaust gas temp1 and temp2 in the upstream and the downstream of the adsorbent 16, an operating condition detecting means 23 for detecting the operating condition of an internal combustion engine 1, a downstream temperature estimating means 25 for estimating the temperature of the exhaust gas TexR-hat to be obtained in the downstream of the adsorbent 16 on the basis of the detected upstream temperature TexF detected during the adsorption by the adsorbent 16 and a detection result of the operating condition of the internal combustion engine 1, and an adsorbing condition determining means 25 for determining the adsorbing condition of the adsorbent 16 by comparing the estimated downstream temperature TexR-hat with the detected downstream temperature TexR detected by the downstream temperature detecting sensor 22B during the adsorption by the adsorbent 16.
