Title:
ALPHA-OLEFINIC POLYMER MOLDING PLATED WITH METAL AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04160164
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form a chemical metal plating layer with a good adhesive property onto a base material by subjecting an α-olefinic polymer base material having a surface graft modified by graft modifying monomers, such as unsatd. carboxylic acid, to a chemical metal plating treatment.

CONSTITUTION: The base material consisting of the α-olefinic polymer (polyethylene, etc.) is graft-polymerized with at least one kind of the graft modifying monomers selected from unsatd. carboxylic acid (acrylic acid, etc.) and its acid deriv. (acrylamide, etc.) to produce the base material subjected to the graft modification on at least its surface. The content of the graft-modifying monomers is confined to about 0.1 to 500 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. α-olefinic polymer molding at this time. The surface to be plated of this base material is then treated with a palladium compd. (palladium chloride, etc.) to fix the palladium compd. onto the surface of the base material; thereafter, the surface is subjected to the chemical metal plating treatment, by which the metal plating layer (copper, Ni, Co, etc.) is formed at about 1 to 2μ thickness. The α-olefinic polymer molding plated with the metal having the good adhesive property is obtd. in this way.
