This backup roll bearing device 7 is such that bearings 10, 11 are interposed between a roll 8 and a shaft 9, and both end portions 9a, 9a of the shaft 9 is supported by housings Hs. Cross sectional height adjusting members 17 are respectively provided in the outer circumferential portions in both the end portions 9a, 9a of the shaft 9, wherein the adjusting members can adjust a cross sectional height H1 which is the diameter direction height between an arbitrary circumferential direction position in the outer circumferential surface in the end portion 9a of the shaft 9 and the circumferential direction position of the opposite side of the diameter direction to the arbitrary circumferential direction position of the shaft 9, among the outer circumferential surface of the roll 8.
