Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for enabling a battery grid to have features of reduced weight, reinforced strength and improved flexibility by using wires made of a high tensile strength fibrous material, optical glass fiber or the like as cores which are coated with an extrudable anti-corosion metal.
CONSTITUTION: A composite wire is constituted of a high tensile strength fibrous material, optical glass fiber of high electric conductivity metal as a core, that is coated with an extrudable corrosion-resistant metal, for example, lead, zinc or nickel. A scrim 180, which is used for a grid for an electrode, is made by nitting this composite wire. At the edges of the scrim 180, the wire ends are folded at 186, or a back frame 182 is formed. A frame 182, which is molded, welded or extruded on the scrim 180, is made of a material of an appropriate mechanical strength regardless of the electrical characteristics. Thereby, the weight of the grid is reduced, its strength is reinforced and also its high flexibility is secured.
