PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Al billet for extrusion forming and manufacturing method thereof, wherein air remaining in the front end of a container which loads the billet can be exhausted to a rear part of the container, in the extrusion forming of aluminum. SOLUTION: On the outer peripheral face of the aluminum billet 1, depression grooves 2 are provided continuously from its front end through the back end. Manufacturing method of the billet 1 with the depression grooves 2 for extrusion forming of aluminum is either one of the followings: one is to make the depression grooves in tandem with continuous casting by making protrusions on the inner surface of a casting die of a continuous casting machine; and the other is to use a pressing machine; wherein guide means and die-shaped depression groove cutting means fitted inside with protruding blades are provided in sequence to an anvil of the pressing machine, and the billet is pushed into the depression groove cutting means to make depression grooves.
