PURPOSE: To accurately fold each of a number of papers in two and to smoothly stack bound books in a binder by rotating a paper carrying tray up to under a wall plate so that the wall plate for pushing a given number of papers folded in two one by one and stacked on a paper end aligner up to a saddle stitching position does not abut against the bound books.
CONSTITUTION: A paper from a paper supply assembly B is fed by rollers 6 and, after passing sponge rollers 12 and 13 while being guided by an upper guide plate 8, the leading end of the paper abuts against fences 15W18, beginning to be bent near the rollers 6 and a lower guide plate 9. Then a roller 7 is rotated by one revolution in response to a signal from a sensor 10 and the paper is pinched between the roller 7 and one of the rollers 6, being folded. The paper is then fed to a paper end aligner D and carried onto trays 52 and 54. After brushed by a brush roller 47, the paper is fed toward a wall plate 34 and, when the tail end of the paper touches a roller 40 or 40', the paper is fed in a direction A. And when the paper perpendicular to the fold of the paper is brought into contact with a roller 45, the paper is fed in a direction B. After arranged, all the papers are pushed by the wall plate 34 at the rear ends of the papers and the aligned fold lines of the papers are aligned with the edge of a staple receiving stay 57 through a gap formed between the trays 52 and 54 just above the edge. After stitched by a stitcher 59, the papers are stacked.
