Abstract:

To provide a chemical substance sensing technique based on a fiber grating and superior in flexibility, without requiring to etch the fiber cladding or to mechanically deform the fiber grating.

A chemical substance sensing device (10) comprises a fiber core (12) and the fiber cladding (14). The fiber core comprises refractive-index modulation grating region (16), having an apodized profile constituted for increasing the deviation of light (18) into the fiber cladding, the fiber cladding in the chemical substance sensing device is constituted, such that at least a part of deviation light is reflected in reverse, directed to the fiber core. The sensing device is applicable to the method and system for sensing the chemical substance.
