PURPOSE: To give no damage to a transfer belt and prolong its life, and to eliminate a defect in the registration of an image by bringing the transfer belt, a fur roller, and a 'Mylar(R)' roller into contact with one another and charging them electrostatically in the order to a high potential.
CONSTITUTION: The fur roller 2 formed by winding the peripheral surface of a metallic roller with cloth which is napped short and made conductive and the 'Mylar(R)' roller 3 which has a thin insulating layer provided on the peripheral surface are made to contact each other; and electrostatically charged cloth 10 is provided on the surface of sponge 9 and an electrostatic charge 4 having an electrode 7 is brought into contact with the roller 3. Sticking matter on the belt is wiped away by the napped part through the arrow-directional movement of the belt 1, but attracted by the static electricity of the roller 2 which is charged to a higher potential than the belt to move the high-potential roller 3 and then wiped off by a cleaning blade 5. This roller 2 is soft, so there is no trouble in belt running and the sticking matter on the belt is removed completely by the small-sized device.
