To provide a cloth presser of a sewing machine capable of easily setting an object to be sewn.

The cloth presser 1 of the sewing machine includes: a cloth feed base moved freely in XY directions on a sewing machine table by an XY drive means; a cloth pressing arm 20 whose one end is attached to the cloth feed base so as to be elevated and lowered; a cloth presser 30 freely turnably connected to the other end of the cloth pressing arm 20 for pressing a cloth from above; a cylinder unit 50 for elevating and lowering the cloth presser 30 to a standby position and a cloth holding position; a lower plate 40 for holding the object to be sewn by cooperation with the cloth presser 30; a torsion coil spring 60 for energizing the cloth presser 30 in the direction of lowering the distal end side; a first stopper 70 for holding the distal end at a position above the rear end when the cloth presser 30 is positioned at the standby position; and a second stopper 80 arranged such that the lower surface of the cloth presser 30 faces the upper surface of the cloth when the cloth presser 30 is lowered to the cloth holding position.
