Abstract:
To increase combustion speed utilizing tumble flow, in a combustion chamber with a pent-roof type ceiling surface.SOLUTION: A combustion chamber 5 for an engine is partitioned by a crown surface 40 of a piston 4, the inner wall surface of a cylinder 20, and a pent-roof type combustion chamber ceiling surface 5U. The crown surface 40 includes an exhaust side inclined surface 43 rising from the exhaust side to the center of the crown surface 40, an intake side inclined surface 44 rising from the intake side to the center of the crown surface 40, a flat surface 45 provided between the upper end of the exhaust side inclined surface 43 and the upper end of the intake side inclined surface 44, a cavity 80 recessed in an area including the flat surface 45, and a small cavity 90 formed by hollowing an area at an IN side edge 82 of the cavity 80 and at the upper end of the intake side inclined surface 44 into a bowl shape, wherein the small cavity 90 has an EX side peripheral edge 91 and an IN side peripheral edge 92 as the outer peripheral edge. The curvature factor of a second curve forming the IN side peripheral edge 92 is set to be higher than the curvature factor of a first curve forming the EX side peripheral edge 91.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
