An ECU executes a program provided with steps of: controlling a plug-in hybrid vehicle to travel in an EV traveling mode of traveling with only MG (motor generator) as the drive source (S100); determining, when an operation of turning on an EV cancel switch is performed (YES in S102), whether the SOC of a battery is larger than a threshold A (S104); releasing, when the SOC of the battery is the threshold A or less (NO in S104), the EV traveling mode, and controlling the vehicle to travel in an HV traveling mode of traveling an engine or the MG as the drive source (S108); and continuing, when the SOC of the battery is larger than the threshold A (YES in S104), the control of the vehicle to travel in the EV traveling mode (S106).
