Abstract:
To produce hydrogen using a sulfuric acid production step in a copper smelting process.SOLUTION: A copper smelting apparatus 1 has a copper smelting device 11, a first reaction device 21, and a second reaction device 31. The copper smelting device 11 smelts copper concentrate R to produce crude copper RC. The exhaust gas (high-temperature sulfur gas HS) of the copper smelting device 11 includes sulfur dioxide. The sulfur dioxide is supplied to the first reaction device 21. The first reaction device 21 causes water, iodine and the sulfur dioxide to react with each other, producing hydrogen iodide and sulfuric acid. The second reaction device 31 decomposes the hydrogen iodide to produce iodine and hydrogen.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
