PURPOSE: To prevent a copying machine from defective copying due to the unsuitableness of an original setting direction by forming an original setting direction converting and displaying means for converting the original setting direction in the ascending direction of power to be modified or the descending direction of a picture formation range from paper size.
CONSTITUTION: The copying machine is provided with the original setting direction converting and displaying means S30 for converting the original setting direction in the ascending direction of power modification or the descending direction of the picture formation range from the paper size when the longitudinal direction of an original or paper or both of them can be set up in both rectangular or parallel directions to an exposure scanning direction. When S29 detects that the modified power is smaller than 33, S30 decides whether the power is 24 or not. If the set up power to be modified is 24 or more, a cassette for the paper of A4 size is selected. In said operation, the unsuitableness of the original setting direction can be corrected, the optimum power to be modified can be selected and the copying machine can be prevented from defective copying due to the unsuitableness of the paper feeding direction.
