Abstract:

To provide a method and medicinal composition for treating disorders involving a ceramide-mediated signaling transmission system, for example, those selected from the group consisting of Gaucher disease, Tay-Sachs disease, Sandhoff disease, and Niemann-Pick disease.

Deoxynojirimycin derivatives or their salts contain a large hydrophobic moiety such as adamantanemethanol or cholesterol, linked through a spacer such as pentamethylene, to the nitrogen atom of deoxynojirimycin, and inhibit glucosylceramidase.
