Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new compound exhibiting a low viscosity and a high- speed responsibility, excellent in light stability and useful for a liquid crystal display device, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (A3 is a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene; A1, A2 and A4 are each a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, etc.; Y1 and Y2 are each COO, OCO, C≡C, CH2CH2, CH=CH, OCH2, CH2O or a single bond; R1 and R2 are each a 1 to 10C alkyl, a halogen, cyano, etc.; m and n are each 0 or 1), e.g. trans-1,2-difluoro-1,2-bis(trans-4-n-propylcyclohexyl)ethylene. In addition, the compound of formula I can be obtained, e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III.
