Abstract:
To adjust the amount of detected light reaching an image sensor electronically by adjusting the size of an aperture using an iris without moving parts.SOLUTION: An optical system 200 has an electronically variable iris 206. The optical system comprises an optical lens 202. A predetermined number of transparent conductive layers 220, 222, 224, 226 are coupled to an optical surface of the optical lens. A liquid crystal film is separated into a predetermined number of portions by the predetermined number of transparent conductive layers, where a transmissive state of each of the predetermined number of portions of the liquid crystal film with respect to light is configured to change in response to application of a voltage to the predetermined number of transparent conductive layers.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
