Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance the scale removing power of a pickling bath by adding thiourea and a specified deriv. thereof as a cleaning accelerator to the bath when scale on the surface of a steel member is removed by a cathodic electrocleaning method using the bath to clean the surface. CONSTITUTION:When scale stuck to a steel member is removed by cathodically electrolyzing the member in a pickling bath contg. 5-70wt% acid such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or sulfamic acid, thiourea and a deriv. thereof represented by general formulaI(where each of R1-R4 is H, lower alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, methylol or the like) are added to the bath so as to make the concn. >=0.05%. A surfactant such as polyethylene glycol alkyl phenyl ether may be added furthermore by 0.01-0.1%. The scale removing power of the bath by cathodic electrolysis is enhanced remarkably.
