Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an engine capable of efficiently and promptly executing NOx purge and thus reducing fuel amount required for the NOx purge.SOLUTION: During deceleration of a vehicle accompanying fuel cut of an engine 1, when NOx purge of an NOx occlusion catalyst 14 is required and can be executed, an intake throttle valve 8 and an exhaust shutter 13 are closed, and an EGR valve 16 is opened, so as to form a closed space in which an exhaust side and an intake side of a cylinder interior portion 17 are communicated with each other via an EGR passage 15. Intake air trapped in the closed space is recirculated as recirculation air, and fuel is injected into the recirculation air to make the air fuel-rich. Then, the exhaust shutter 13 is opened, and the EGR valve 16 is closed, so as to discharge the recirculation air in the closed space to the exhaust side and supply the recirculation air to the NOx occlusion catalyst 14. By repeating this cycle, the NOx purge is executed intermittently.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
