To provide a functionally gradient material in which coal ash can be effectively utilized, and also, defects causing deterioration in its strength are reduced, and to provide a method for producing the same.
For example, on an alloy layer composed of an alloy essentially consisting of Fe or Ni, or on an alloy layer provided on a base material, an intermediate layer comprising one or more mixtures obtained by mixing 10 pts.wt. of coal ash to 100 pts.wt. of an alloy wherein the mixed compositions of each alloy and each coal ash are different, and in which the concentration of the coal ash on the side of the alloy layer is lowest and the mixed composition of the alloy and the coal ash is continuously or stepwise changed is formed, and a coal ash layer composed of coal ash is formed on the intermediate layer. In this way, the functionally gradient material in which coal ash can be effectively utilized, and also, defects causing deterioration in strength are reduced can be obtained.
