PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel gas diffusion layer for a battery, capable of suppressing an electrolyte membrane from being broken, water-clogged or the like by dispersing local pressure due to a concavo-convex shape of a separator and a concavo-convex shape of a member, such as a metal mesh or the like, adjacent to a gas diffusion layer when a cell is assembled.SOLUTION: A gas diffusion layer for a battery includes a first conductive porous layer containing a conductive carbon material and a high molecular weight polymer. In the gas diffusion layer for a battery, (1) the tensile modulus of elasticity is 10.0-200.0 MPa, and (2) the in-plane maximum pressure measured by a flat-plate pressing pressure measurement method is 0.20-2.00 MPa.SELECTED DRAWING: None
