Abstract:
To provide a hard metal and a cutting tool therewith.SOLUTION: There is provided a hard metal having a first phase comprising a plurality of tungsten carbide particles and a second phase containing cobalt, in which a number-based rate of tungsten carbide particles has a circle equivalent diameter of 0.3 μm or larger and 1.0 μm or smaller is 50% or larger. When the distribution of the circle equivalent diameter of the tungsten carbide particles is represented by the histogram with the frequency as a vertical axis and class as a horizontal axis, the frequency is the number of tungsten carbide particles; the class is obtained by partitioning the circle equivalent diameter with a 0.1 μm distance in an ascending order; in the horizontal axis, a range of larger than 0.3 μm and 0.6 μm or smaller is defined as a first range, and a range of larger than 0.6 μm and 1.0 μm or smaller is defined as the second range; each has at least one maximum frequency; among the maximum frequencies present in the first range, a rate relative to a total number of largest first maximum frequency is 10% or larger, and among the maximum frequencies present in the second range, a rate relative to the total number of the largest second maximum frequencies is 10% or larger.SELECTED DRAWING: None
