To effectively reduce the temp. increase in the edges and to prevent unnecessary energy consumption when narrow paper sheets are continuously fed, by providing a first heat generating layer which is formed to have the width according to the max. paper feeding width, and a second heat generating layer which is formed to have the width according to the min. continuous paper feeding width.
A heating roller 10, for example, to be used for 296 mm max. paper feeding width (corresponding to A3-size sheets in the longitudinal position) and for 182 mm min. continuous paper feeding width (corresponding to B5-size sheets in the longitudinal position), consists of an aluminum base body 13a of 370 mm length and about 0.4 mm thickness, a first insulating layer 11a comprising a composite mica on the inner wall of the aluminum base body 13a, and moreover, a first heat generating layer 11b (containing an imide resin as a binder and having, for example, 310 mm width) comprising carbon fibers arranged as specified helices on the inner face of the layer 11a. Moreover, a second insulating layer 12a comprising a composite mica is formed on the inner face of the layer 11b, and a second heat generating layer 12b (containing an imide resin as a binder and having, for example, 210 mm width) comprising carbon fibers arranged as specified helices on the inner face of the layer 12a.
