Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission for a vehicle capable of enabling favorable travel when a relatively large driving force is necessary as a fail-safe means is functioning.
SOLUTION: This device includes a change-over valve 96 changed from a first position into a second position in accordance with change of change-over positions in a manual valve 82 at the time of failure when a first solenoid valve 84 to a fifth solenoid valve 92 stop their action, so that a hydraulic friction engagement device is actuated by a combination to set up a fifth speed at the first position, and by a combination to set up a third speed at the second position. When failure is generated during travel, the fifth speed is first set up to enable continued travel. As the change-over position of the manual valve 82 is changed by operation by a driver when the vehicle is temporarily stopped, the third speed is set up by the change-over valve 96, thereby driving force necessary for low-speed travel or restarting is secured.
