PURPOSE: To provide a document preparing device capable of further reducing document preparator's load for data input as compared with a conventional device.

CONSTITUTION: This document preparing device is provided with a layout information data base 11 for storing the information of an input means previously determined correspondingly to each item constituting a document out of plural kinds of input means, an item sorted data base 13 for previously storing the data of items necessary for the preparation of a document, an edition part 16 for specifying a displayed document item in order to designate a command for inputting the item, and an item sorted data input part 14 for finding out input means information corresponding to the item specified by the edition part 16 and item data corresponding to the input means information and providing an input means appropriate for the specified item and item data to be a candidate to the edition part 16 by the use of the found results.
