Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently improving an ignition performance of an ignition coil and performing an ignition control having a safety characteristic increased at the time of increasing temperature of the device.SOLUTION: An igniter 5 for controlling electrical energization and shutting-off for a primary coil 31 of an ignition coil 3 upon reception of an ignition instruction signal S0 from an engine control unit 6 determines by ignition operation mode determining means 52a whether or not a frequency of the ignition instruction signal S0 is present within a special operation frequency (a high output range where a multi ignition is preferable) or out of the special operation frequency (either a low output range or an excessive high output range), IGBT driving control means 52b generates an IGBT driving signal S3 corresponding to a result of determination, and ON-OFF of IGBT 51 is controlled to perform either a normal ignition control for discharging an ignition plug 2 within one ignition cycle or a special ignition control for performing discharging the ignition plug 2 for several times within one ignition cycle so as to realize improvement of ignition performance and improvement of a safety characteristic under restriction of heat discharging suppression.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
