A supply roller 17Y for pumping the liquid developer of a developer storage section 18Y, an intermediate roller 16Y to which the liquid developer is applied from the supply roller 17Y, and a developing roller 15Y that is in contact with the intermediate roller 16Y and develops a latent image of a photoreceptor 2Y by application of a developing bias, are controlled in a condition selected from among first and second different driving conditions. The toner density of the image of the photoreceptor 2Y after developing and before squeezing is measured by a first density sensor. The toner density of the image of the photoreceptor 2Y after squeezing is measured by a second density sensor. The supply amount of toner to be supplied from the developing roller 15Y to the photoreceptor 2Y is controlled based on the toner density measured by the first density sensor and the toner density measured by the second density sensor.
