To solve the problems, wherein a configuration for reducing and suppressing the vibration that accompanies the main scanning operation of a carriage is complex and a vibration-absorpting means acts, even when reduction in vibration is not desirable.
A printing mechanism unit 10 is supported on a base member 1 of an apparatus body. In the printing mechanism unit 10 on the base member 1, right and left side plates 12A and 12B are mounted via the vibration-absorbing means 11, capable of controlling the vibration reducing characteristic which reduce the vibration. The carriage 14 mounting a recording head by a guide rod 13 and a slide rail (not shown), built horizontally between the right and left side plates 12A and 12B is freely slidably retained in the main scan direction. The vibration-absorbing means 11 is controlled to a state in which the vibration-absorbing function is exhibited and is not exhibited, in matching with the speed profile of the carriage 14.
