The image forming apparatus includes: an endless-shape charge belt 101 for conveying a recording form sheet 108; a charge roller 113 for applying an electric field to a surface of the charge belt 101; a voltage control device (HVP 120, HVP control unit 215) for outputting a high voltage to the charge roller 113; and a control device (ASIC 205, control unit 200) for controlling the image forming apparatus including the voltage control device. The image forming apparatus further includes a leakage detection sensor 216 for detecting a cause and a location of the occurrence of charge leakage in the charge belt 101.
