Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately determine the replacement timing of an ozone filter in an image forming apparatus of an electrophotographic system having a discharge member.SOLUTION: A method for determining the life of an ozone filter includes: calculating, for every execution of a job, a current amount Pi that is a value obtained by integrating the value of a current flowing in a discharge member (value indicating the amount of ozone generated by discharge) by energization time, for each of processes of charging, primary transfer, secondary transfer, and static elimination generating ozone by discharge (S4); summing up the current amounts Pi to obtain the total current amount Pa (S5); determining a value obtained by adding the total current amount Pa to the cumulative current amount Pb as a new cumulative current amount Pb (S6); and when determining that the new cumulative current amount Pb is larger than a threshold th1 ("Yes" in S7), notifying a user of the effect that the replacement timing of an ozone filter is reached due to the end of its life (S9).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
