Abstract:
PURPOSE: To check the occurrence of a large switching shock in an internal combustion engine having a variable cylinder mechanism at switching time from a cylinder resting mode to a whole cylinder mode. CONSTITUTION: An internal combustion engine is provided with a variable cylinder mechanism 48 which can switch a whole cylinder mode and a cylinder resting mode to/from each other, a variable cylinder control means 70 to control actuation of the variable cylinder mechanism 48 so that an engine is operated in a cylinder resting mode when an engine load is small and it is operated in a whole cylinder mode when the engine load is large according to a load condition of the internal combustion engine and a power generation control means 76 to control actuation of a generator 78 driven by the internal combustion engine. The power generation control means 76 is constituted so as to stop or restrain and control power generation by the generator at cylinder resting mode operation time.
