Title:
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH RECIPROCATING PISTON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5614810
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
The engine has a piston (13) reciprocating in a cylinder (12) with an inlet valve (15) and an exhaust valve (18). A recess (31) in the cylinder head between the combustion space and the exhaust valve contains a regenerative beat exchanger (32) made of steel wool. When the regenerator has gained sufficient beat from the exhaust flowing through it, water (35,34) is injected into it (33). At the same time the inlet valve is closed and the supply of fuel shut off. The water is evaporated and the resulting steam performs useful work on the piston. When the stored heat has been used the water injection is stopped and normal operation is restarted.
