Abstract:
To realize control of pressing force of a piston ring on an inner wall surface of a cylinder bore in accordance with an operation condition.SOLUTION: A piston ring 21 is made of a magnetic material. An internal combustion engine 10 comprises a permanent magnet 22 which is installed around a cylinder bore 12 in a cylinder block 11 so that at least a portion thereof is arranged close to a lower dead center of a piston 18 and attracts the piston ring 21 toward an inner wall face 12a of the cylinder bore 12. Also, the internal combustion engine 10 has an actuator 24 which switches a posture of the permanent magnet 22 between a first posture to turn a direction of magnetic poles of the permanent magnet 22 to an axial line L1 of the cylinder bore 12 and a second posture to turn the direction thereof away from the axial line L1 of the cylinder bore 12. In addition, an electronic control unit 30 controls driving of the actuator 24 in accordance with an operation condition of the internal combustion engine 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
