To heighten the degree of freedom of design of a latch operating force etc. and eliminate generation of a sliding noise by eliminating or reducing a malfunction caused by rotation moment of an engaging body.
This latch device includes: a housing 1; a sliding body 2 which has an abutment portion 22 abutting on a member 9 to be engaged/disengaged and a cam groove 27, and which is arranged in such a manner as to protrude/recede from/into the housing; a spring member 4 which urges the sliding body 2 in the direction of protrusion from the housing; an engaging body 3 which is turnably supported on the sliding body via a pivoting portion, and which protrudes a claw portion 32 onto the abutment portion 22, so as to switch between a locking position to have the member 9 capable of locking and an unlocking position to recede from the top of the abutment portion 22; and a pin member 5 which traces the cam groove 27. In the latch device, the engaging body 3 is supported on the sliding body 2 in such a manner that the center of rotation having a pivoting portion 35 of the engaging body 3 as a supporting point and the claw portion 32 in the state of having the engaging body 3 switched to the locking position face each other in the direction of pulling out the member 9.
