To provide a lithium secondary battery having superior battery characteristics (cycling performance or high rate performance) by improving a reduction resistance by forming a film on a negative electrode and at the same time preventing oxidative decomposition by forming a similar film on a positive electrode.
The lithium secondary battery includes a non-aqueous electrolytic solution that contains at least one kind of additive agent that decomposes by oxidoreduction reaction on the positive electrode and/or negative electrode side along with charging and discharging of the battery and generates a film on the surface of an active material on the positive electrode and/or negative electrode side. A positive electrode active material layer and/or a negative electrode active material layer (440) include a self-sacrifice auxiliary substance (442). The self-sacrifice auxiliary substance reacts with the additive agent that decomposes by oxidoreduction reaction along with charging and discharging of the battery, and adjusts an amount of the film generated on the surface of the active material on the positive electrode and/or negative electrode side by the reaction.
