Abstract:
PURPOSE: To manufacture a propeller shaft in connecting both male and female conductive ends requiring no welding by installing a serration and a caulking groove both in the maletype connective end, while setting up a contractive part in the female type connective end by means of drawing.
CONSTITUTION: A serration 3 and a caulking groove 4 both are installed on a peripheral surface of the connecting side end of a yoke 1. A contractive part 5 whose pipe diameter is smaller than an outer diameter on the peripheral surface of the connecting side end of the yoke 1, and contracted till it canes to an inner diameter, insomuch that a residual compressive stress is left behind even receiving any spread-open by means of a press-in step later, is installed in the connecting side end of a propeller shaft pipe 2. After the connecting side end of the yoke 1 is pressed in a contractive opening of the propeller shaft pipe 2, a pipe tip part 6 is caulked in the caulking groove 4 of the yoke 1 by a roller, a press or swaging process, etc., and then the pipe 2 and the yoke 1 are clamped together as one body.
