PURPOSE: To determine quantities of ion concentration of electrolyte by bringing liquid sample containing the electrolyte into contact with a board fixed with molecules to be reacted with the electrolyte and specific material, then emitting a laser light and measuring an intensity of generated secondary harmonic wave (SHG).
CONSTITUTION: Electrolyte 3 is dropped on a detecting film 4 or 5 in which 500 microliter-1 milliliter of sample solution 6 is fixed to a board 1, or the board 1 in which the film 4 or 5 is fixed is dipped in a cuvette in which solution 6 is filled, rest for about 3min, and reacted with electrolyte specific reaction molecules 2. Selection of a reflected light or a transmitted light is suitably conducted according to a refractive index of the film 4 or 5. A boundary between the film 4 or 5 and the solution 6 is polarized by the reaction. Thereafter, a YAG laser having a wavelength of 1064nm is emitted, and a light having a wavelength of 532nm by the SHG generated on a film boundary S is detected by a photomultiplier.
