Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a pharmaceutical composition for a rectal or a vaginal agent, comprising an effective substance, a carrier substance and a hydrocolloid and capable of carrying out the release control of the effective substance by interactions with a local body fluid. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective substance such as a low- to a medium-molecular weight polypeptide (e.g. insulin) or an analgesic agent (e.g. morphine) suitable for the systemic therapy or an antifungal agent (e.g. clotrimazole) or a hormone (e.g. estradiol) suitable for the local rectal and vaginal therapies and further a hydrocolloid in an amount of 5-99.9wt.%, especially 40-90wt.% based on the total weight of the composition, if possible, together with a carrier substance without substantially containing fats. Starch, swellable polysaccharides, a cellulosic derivative, a salt of polyacrylic acid, etc., are used as the hydrocolloid. The composition is sealed in a capsule having a hard easing, especially the one made of gelatin or starch and administered.
