PURPOSE: To obtain a metallic pigment excellent in brightness, little in the breakage when kneaded and molded with a synthetic resin, and capable of giving molded products free from weld line marks and exhibiting good decorative appearance.

CONSTITUTION: The metallic pigment comprises a metal-coated powdery material having an average particle diameter of 30-500μm. The powdery material is obtained by grinding glass or silica, and has smooth breakage surfaces. The synthetic resin composition comprises 100 pts.wt. synthetic resin and 0.05-10 pts.wt. pigment. Since the glass or silica is ground into arbitrary shapes having smooth broken surfaces, the surfaces of the produced particles can be coated with a metal to form mirror surfaces capable of efficiently reflecting visible light, thus giving the particles which shine brilliantly, respectively. Since the metallic pigment is substantially not broken when kneaded and molded with a synthetic resin, the molding failure of the synthetic resin is not generated.
