Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for recovering rare earth elements by using an ion liquid which improve the quality of rare earth metals recovered while allowing simplification of the operation process.SOLUTION: A method of recovering rare earth elements from a resource containing iron group elements, boron and rare earth elements by electrolytic deposition of rare earth elements includes an elution step of eluting iron group elements, boron and rare earth elements from a resource to a water-phase solution, an extraction separation step of extracting, after the elution step, rare earth elements selectively, among iron group elements, boron and rare earth elements in the water-phase solution, to an organic-phase solution usable as an electrolysis bath to be used in electrolytic deposition and an electrolytic deposition step of using the organic-phase solution as an electrolysis bath, after the extraction separation step, to deposit rare earth elements electrolytically from the organic-phase solution.
