To provide a method for testing the melting of a welding wire, capable of directly measuring and evaluating the physical properties of the molten droplet of the welding wire, by melting the welding wire to form the molten droplet, and an apparatus for testing the melting of the welding wire.
The method is provided for testing the melting of the welding wire for evaluating the physical properties of the molten droplet of the welding wire 4, by using the apparatus for testing the melting of the welding wire constituted of a power supply 1, the tungsten electrode 2 and water cooled metal 3 connected to the positive and negative electrodes of the power supply 1, respectively, and the welding wire 4 connected to the water cooled metal 3. In the method, arc discharge is produced between the tungsten electrode 2 and the water cooled metal 3 both of which are opposed to each other, and the leading end of the welding wire 4 is subsequently inserted in the discharge region 5 of the arc discharge to form the molten droplet 7 at the leading end of the welding wire 4, thereby measuring and evaluating the physical properties of the molten droplet 7.
