Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for breaking a sliver for the automatic removal of a bobbin on a roving frame, in particular a roving frame for filament yarns, and to provide a presser to be used by the above method.
SOLUTION: This method for breaking a sliver comprises the following practice: a winding is stopped at a lower portion of a bobbin 1, then a lower winding of several turns is made at the base of the bobbin 1, and rising again and a limited upper winding (pref. one-half to one turn about the bobbin) is made, followed by descending under the upper portion of the bobbin and the sliver is broken; the operator grips the end of the sliver at the base of the bobbin 1 and guarantees good retention of the sliver during handling of the bobbin 1; the upper winding at the higher portion of the bobbin 1 is made in a sliver length enough to retain the sliver during handling of the bobbin 1, however, being adjusted to such a length as to allow the sliver to slip when it is pulled. The other objective presser to be used for this method described above has a blade 5 with two projections, i.e., upper and lower heels 6 and 7, upwardly and downwardly inclined, respectively.
