To provide a method and a device for cutting and joining a sheetlike material in which joining to the previously cut sheetlike material is enabled in the position cutting the sheetlike material in lengths and joining of the sheetlike material is performed with good precision without hindering productivity.

The cutting and joining device is constituted of a standard length feeder 12 for feeding a sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric by standard length in a carrier route of the sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric with prescribed width, a cutting device 13 for cutting the sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric sent by standard length in the direction orthogonal to the carrier direction (the direction shown in an arrow) of the sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric and a laminating device 14 which joins the tip of the sheetlike material Wy cut into standard length to the rear end part of the previously cut sheetlike material Wz in the vicinity of a cutting position K-K of the sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric. An evasion space 15 is formed in the interference part S of the cutting device 13 of the sheetlike material Wx of raw fabric and the laminating device 14. A rodlike evasion device 16 by which the rear end part of the sheetlike material Wx is evaded, is provided in the evasion space 15.
